Brie Larson Addresses MCU Future As Captain Marvel With Wink At Trolls

Brie Larson addresses her future as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel in the MCU with a sly reference to trolls calling for her to be recast.

Brie Larson discusses her future as Captain Marvel in the MCU winking at trolls. Debut in Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck Captain MarvelCarol Danvers has one of the most interesting intro setups in the franchise, after Nick Fury called her out on the heels of Thanos’ snap in. Infinity War. Since appearing in her origin story, Larson has appeared in Avengers: Endgame and twice more in Phase 4, via cameos in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Ms. Marvel. Now she’s slated to face Nia DaCosta Wonders alongside Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan and Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau.

Beyond that, however, it’s unclear where Captain Marvel might appear. It’s no secret that since her debut as Carol Danvers, Larson has faced her fair share of online trolls, who criticize just about her every move. Despite this, she forged ahead and remained committed to her professional and personal endeavors. The actor has been keen to set an example for young girls, and playing Captain Marvel is the most effective way to do that, especially since she’s forming a new team in Wonders.

However, when asked how long she would continue playing Captain Marvel in the MCU per Variety after Marvel Studios’ D23 Expo panel, in which Wonders was a key objective, Larson has an interesting answer. At first, she’s coy with her answer, saying she doesn’t know, and then wonders if there are people out there who want to see her play Captain Marvel again. Check out his quote below:

I do not know. Does anyone want me to do it again? […] I don’t know, I really don’t know. I don’t have an answer to that.

Although she said she doesn’t know what the future holds for Captain Marvel beyond DaCosta’s next film, Larson revealed that Wonders will begin Carol Danvers’ new arc. This means that whatever she goes through in the project will be a launching pad for what’s next for her in the multiverse saga. Since the plot details for Wonders are still rare at the moment, it’s hard to gauge how this will play out, but it’s safe to say that, at the very least, Larson will be in it Avengers: Kang Dynasty. Besides being directed by frequent collaborator Destin Daniel Cretton, Carol Danvers is also set to be one of the new faces of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes post-Infinity Saga.

Larson has never backed down from the trolls that come her way. Although she hasn’t explicitly spoken about them and her experience with them, the way she responded is her way of addressing these detractors, who lobbied for Captain Marvel to be recast or sidelined in the MCU. Unfortunately for them, aside from the fact that Larson isn’t usually bothered by them, Marvel Studios doesn’t care about their bad faith opinions either.
