Director James Gunn talks about Harley Quinn’s (Margot Robbie) future in the DCEU, confidently confirming her future appearance.
Director James Gunn confirms harley quinnthe future of in the DCEU. Played by Margot Robbie in arguably one of the best casting choices in the superhero sandbox, the character has become a fan favorite since her debut in David Ayer. suicide squad. She reprized the role twice more, in Cathy Yan Birds of prey and Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.
While there’s obvious interest in seeing more Harley Quinn in the DCEU, the recent upheaval from Warner Bros. raises concerns about what to expect in-universe. It should be noted that after the management change, the studio is revamping its approach to its superhero franchise. This includes the cancellation of Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi bat girl – a film that was supposed to be the launch pad for Leslie Grace’s Barbara Gordon and was nearly finished with a $90 million budget. Warner Bros. also more actively following Marvel Studios’ MCU strategy moving forward with the DCEU. Considering all of these changes, it’s safe to assume that the franchise’s future will look very different.
Luckily for Harley Quinn fans, Gunn has already come out to confirm that she is already slated for another appearance in the DCEU. After paying homage to the original creators of the anti-villain, the filmmaker was asked if Robbie’s character would return to the franchise, and he replied. “Yes.” Check out the response to Gunn’s tweet below:
Currently, there are only six confirmed DC movies, starring Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix. Joker: Madness for two wrap things up in 2024. On top of that, there are also a handful of shows that are still in development, including Peacemaker season 2 and one in development The Green Lantern To display. Looking at DC Films’ long-running slate Gunn’s Peacemaker on HBO Max is the most plausible project for Harley Quinn to reappear. Aside from the fact that she has an existing relationship with Peacemaker, given the time they spent together at The Suicide Squadit would also be the most interesting storyline, since John Cena’s anti-hero is still considered dead by his surviving Task Force X teammates. If not, the fact that Gunn can definitely offer an update on Harley Quinn’s DCEU future suggests he’s somehow involved in her next appearance.
For what it’s worth, she’s arguably one of the safest characters in the DCEU. Between Robbie’s great performance as Harley Quinn and the popularity of the anti-hero, there’s little chance that Warner Bros. just drops her simply because they change their cinematic strategy. Although he is not a true superhero, harley quinn is treated as one of the faces of the franchise, so it’s only a matter of time before she reappears on the big or small screen to continue her story.
