Rogue Squadron Removed From The Schedule, More Dates Shift

|

The D23 Expo just wrapped up, so it’s time for a massive House of Mouse release date update. Disney made a ton of ads, showed off a ton of footage, and ramped up a lot of releases for both streaming and theatrical releases over the next two years. When it comes to theater, there was one movie that didn’t get a mention and one franchise that the studio remains silent on, and that’s Star Wars. We haven’t had a Star Wars movie released in theaters since the Rise Of Skywalker, And if the D23 Expo presentation was any help, Lucasfilm is looking to keep Star Wars streaming for now. There are plenty of movies in development, but nothing that seems far enough along to merit talking about it in a real capacity. We thought maybe Lucasfilm would mention rogue squad, take it off the schedule and talk about where Star Wars goes next on the big screen at D23 Expo, but it turns out that wasn’t the case. In an email sent to the press today, Disney revealed that rogue squad has been officially removed from its December 22, 2023 release date.

There was no way the movie would make it to that date unless they started production tomorrow, so it’s not surprising that rogue squad has been retired, which is something people have been waiting for since 2021. That wasn’t the only change we got. Haunted Mansion passed from March 10, 2023 to August 11, 2023. Meanwhile, Desire from Disney Animation officially got the release date of November 22, 2023, Elio from Pixar has March 1, 2024, White as snow has March 22, 2024, inside out 2 is June 14, 2024, and Mufasa: The Lion King has a prime time slot of July 5, 2024 as its release date. There were also a few other shift changes like an untitled Disney live-action movie being dropped from the August 11, 2023 spot on the schedule, an untitled Marvel Movie from February 16, 2024 to September 6 from 2024, and Next goal wins from Searchlight has a release date of April 21, 2023.

When it comes to big places Disney could make announcements, there will be virtually no more until spring next year with Star Wars Celebration. So anyone looking for more information on what happened to rogue squad or what the future of Star Wars on the big screen might be sitting in their hands for a while. That is unless Disney decides to do some sort of virtual event at the end of the year, but that’s not likely. Here’s a good list of all the release date changes:

  • HAUNTED MANSION (Disney) dated before 03/10/23 becomes 08/11/23
  • UNTITLED DISNEY LIVE ACTION (Disney) dated before 08/11/23 is removed from the schedule
